Okanagan Skin Care Centre offers safe and effective laser hair removal treatment at our Kelowna clinic using the GentleLasePlus system. Only dark hair (brown to black) can be effectively treated with the GentleLase system.
The GentleLase system is a revolutionary long pulsed, high-energy alexandrite laser which emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle where it is absorbed. The laser energy is transformed into heat, which destroys the hair follicle leaving the surrounding skin unaffected.

The Gentlelase Plus Alexandrite laser sends a high intensity light into the skin where it delivers a therapeutic heat. A cooling burst of cryogen helps to cool the upper layers of the skin. The cooling system along with the long-pulse laser offer optimal treatment with minimal side effects.
Our Kelowna laser hair removal clinic will provide protective eyewear. The practitioner guides the laser handpiece across the treatment area. One pulse at a time, the area will be covered. This can take only a few minutes and up to an hour or two depending on the size of the area being treated.
Slight discomfort may be felt. The cooling system built into the laser helps with each pulse. The feeling can be described as an elastic band snapping the skin. This sensation settles in a few seconds. A topical anesthetic can be used prior to treatment but many patients tolerate well enough that they do not require this step. Following treatment a soothing gel /cream will be applied to the area.
Multiple treatments will be required. How many depends on several factors. Hair color, texture and condition of the skin will impact the efficacy. Six to eight treatments is typical. Laser hair treatments at our Kelowna clinic are performed 6 weeks or longer apart as it is most effective when the hair follicle is in its active growth phase.
Typically, your skin will be tender with a small amount of redness and possibly slight swelling. These side effects usually resolve within a few hours.
Avoiding the sun is very important for 5-6 weeks prior to laser hair removal treatment. You must avoid plucking, waxing, electrolysis and the use of dipilitories for 6 weeks as well. Shaving is ok. For darker skin, bleaching creams may be required for several weeks before treatment. These precautions are to ensure optimal results from your treatments.
